You need the proper size washer. If you are sure you have one installed, the hose needs to be replaced. Trying to tape the leak is just asking for a flood if the tape and/or hose fail while you are away which would likely put a much larger dent in your budget than a new hose.

i had a ground hog over the summer chew through my heat tape i have the kind that looks like a braided steel line im wondering if i could just wire nut it together where it is split or is it more complicated i am very handy but know nothing about heat tapes thanks in advance

Pitch it and buy new..the resistance wire is very stiff compared to regular wire and could break during the mending…not a good idea, you wouldn’t know if it were working or not!

Mighty Fix It Tape As Seen On TV, 3 Rools is a post from: I-Plumbing

It says I can use it on wet pipe, which is required since i can turn off the water, but there is no way to drain this section of pipe (except turn off the water and let it drip for about three days). The connection has a lip of about 1/8″ from the inside threads to the outside of the T, and I can’t seem to get the tape to seat flush into the crotch of the two pieces. No matter how tight i stretch it it still leaks from at least two or three seams on the tape.

Anybody else solved this problem?

It’s not ideal obviously, but I would use a quick setting two part epoxy putty that can set underwater. Silicone will not work in that situation. Clean off the joint properly all around, and press the putty into place. The watertightness of the joint will be entirely dependent on how well you clean the surfaces you are pressing the putty into. The only problem with this would be if the pressure from the leak pushes the putty away from the joint before it sets. If the leak is very slow you should be okay.

This is the first test run after I drilled a hole in my tank. I used 1 inch PVC with 1 T joint, 2 elbow joints, 1 washing machine drainage hose, PVC solvent cement, aquarium safe silicone sealant, teflon plumbing tape and Pioneer marine epoxy. I must say that I followed the design of youtuber keegano2007. I’m happy to say that there are no leaks! Thanks keegano2007!
