“Paulo Coelho’s enchanting novel has inspired a devoted following around the world. This story, dazzling in its powerful simplicity and inspiring wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way. But what starts out as a journey to find wordly goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is an eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts.”

@katinatreesee Most likely, yeah. They are putting them everywhere now. In fact, Ender has one in him. They called it a “smart chip” but I’ll bet dollars to donuts its also an rfid.
@Urgo6667 Everyday technology blows my mind. Thanks for the info… I learned something today!
There was a little sticker patch in the book… RFID chip?
lol. good job there
The cover looks familiar.. I think I saw it at home last time I was there (xmas) so my mother probably read it. Also the library checkout thing sounds really cool. If you look in the books they probably have RFID chips in them. That would work for checking out that many things that quickly from that distance without direct contact. Basically sends a radio beacon that powers the rfid chip in the books and they respond with their serial #.
